2 stone in 8 months…a piece of cake, right? NOPE. Did I want to eat cake? YES..copious amounts. But I was getting to the stage where my clothes would just not fit anymore and I kept having to buy bigger and bigger sizes. Now don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with being any size, size 6 or size 22, but for me and my health, the weight gain was something I had to take control of. Trying on outfits in shops or wearing dresses had me feeling down on myself and I was feeling self conscious dressing/undressing in front of my boyfriend! All this started affecting my self esteem and I knew I had to do something. 2 years ago, I was 9 stone and I gave up smoking. The weight started piling on after that, EVERYTHING tasted sooooo much better and I ended up putting on about 2 1/2 stone in a year! I was becoming more and more unhealthy and I didn’t want to feel that way anymore. For my height, 5ft 1″, my healthy weight is 9 stone, so according to BMI, I was 2 1/2 stone overweight. I decided enough was enough and made some changes to my diet and lifestyle. My goal => to lose 2 1/2 stone by the end of 2016…half a stone to go. I’ve had a lot of messages about the topic, so I thought the best thing to do was to write a post on it. I do hope you find it interesting but more importantly, I hope you find it helpful. Important to remember, that no matter what size, shape, or weight you are, you’re beautiful regardless, but if your health is being threatened, it’s time to do something about it.
If you’re looking for a quick fix, stop looking. You won’t find it. It, simply, does not exist. The only way to lose weight safely is to do it SLOWLY. This ensures you won’t just put it all back on again. Starving yourself, using laxatives, thinking Skinny Teas have all the answers, is just not the way to go. I am going to tell you what I did and what worked for me. Everybody is different and I don’t claim to have all the answers, I’m just sharing my experience with you.
I looked into Forever Living, it’s a company that specialises in the utilisation of aloe vera in many different products. It also specialises in detox programmes, that has the added benefit of also being good for weight loss, as well as giving you glowing skin, stronger nails and hair, the HEALTHY way. I am forever grateful that I got in touch with a woman called Nicola Gerety, she advised me what would work for me, encouraged me to set goals and was super helpful and informative in answering all my questions. And believe me, there were ALOT! So I decided to give my body and mind a kick start and do the “C9 Programme” and then continue with a lot of their products, products that I’m still taking.
If you want to lose weight, you have to really want it and commit to it. There’s no point half-arsing it. Set yourself small attainable goals and smash them every month…I swear to God, you’ll become more and more proud of yourself with every little goal you reach. You will start feeling better emotionally, physically, your energy levels will increase and you will be feeling so good on the inside, from eating healthier, you will look so much happier and healthier on the outside. Trust me!
First of all, I made these changes =>
- I drank 2 to 2 1/2 litres of water daily. This would be my biggest tip, water flushes the system, ensures your body is functioning at it’s optimum level and its vital for our skin. If you take nothing else from this post but this, I’d be happy!
- I cut out bad carbs, for example, white bread, white pasta, white rice, potatoes. I’m a carb junkie, so found this very hard, but it makes some difference!!! I replaced them with brown bread, brown pasta, brown rice and sweet potato.
- I cut out all crisps, chocolate, sweets, desserts, fizzy drinks. Crisps and fizzy drinks were the hardest for me.
- I ate ALL the vegetables!!! Full of vitamins, anti-oxidants and will help keep you fuller for longer.Snacked on grapes, apples, nuts, mixed fruit.
- I reduced sugar intake in my tea and coffee. Sugar is the devil, when it comes to your health and if you’re trying to lose weight. It’s hidden EVERYWHERE, in all different types of foods!
- I cut out salt. We DO NOT NEED salt, and again, its in EVERYTHING!
Now, let me just say, I wasn’t always an angel! Some days, I made unhealthy choices, and that’s ok, don’t beat yourself up and just start again. I always had a cheat day every week, except when I was doing the C9. Whether you do the C9 or not, or whether you start with any of the Forever Living products, the above tips will make a huge difference in your life: your body AND your mind.
So, as I said, the C9 lasts for 9 days. You are given a very easy to follow booklet, with recipes, tips and a daily chart to measure your progress and what your consuming. You’re encouraged to write down your goals, weigh and measure yourself before beginning and then again on specific days. You’re also encourage to do light to moderate exercise throughout, but I’ll be honest, I didn’t do much. It involves taking supplements – Garcinia Soft Gels, Therm Tablets, Protein Shakes, Fibre and of course the super benefiacial Aloe Vera Gel. You have to follow the diet they suggest and I found that really easy after the first 2 days. I’m not going to lie, I was a demon on the first 2 days because the calorie intake was very low, but it was designed this way to give your digestive system a break and allow the Aloe Vera gel to work it’s magic.
On days 3-9 I wasn’t hungry AT ALL and the energy I had was phenomenal…I’d say I had the cleanest house in Ireland! I’d highly recommend this programme for anyone looking to kick start their healthy habits and who understand that this is a stepping stone, it’s no quick fix, but an introduction into making better choices on what we put into our bodies, for the future. Being healthy is a lifetyle choice, it’s not just for 9 days. If, after the 9 days, you revert back to eating loads of crap, sugar, takeaways, YOU WILL PUT IT ALL BACK ON, so before your start, make sure you’re committed.
After the 9 days, I had lost 5lbs, and 4 inches from around my waist. The inch loss was what impressed me the most…so if you had an event coming up or a holiday booked, this would be ideal to give you a little boost. After the C9, I continued with the Garcinia Soft Gels, Therm Tablets, Protein Shake in flavour Vanilla(delish) and also the shots Aloe Vera Gel. Now, the one thing I’d give you the heads up on is the Aloe Vera Gel. I really struggled with the Yellow Gel during my 1st C9. A little tip I’d give is to always keep it in the fridge, hold your nose when swallowing and have a glass of water ready to drink after you take the shots. When that carton was gone, I changed to taking the Aloe Berry Gel, which is soooo much more palatable and has added anti-oxidants, which make it better for your skin, hair and nails. Ehhhhh yes please!

After the C9, I continued with the above supplements. My diet isn’t as strict as the C9 either. I’d have a protein shake for breakfast, chicken/ham salad or a brown wrap or soup or fish for lunch and dinner would always consist of meat/chicken and LOTS of veg for dinner. I snack on fruit, seeds and nuts through out the day, if I was ever feeling hungry. I didn’t join a gym or do any real exercise, however, I do intend on joining the leisure centre in The Tower Hotel, in the next couple of weeks to help me reach my target by the end of the year and shed the last half stone. Weight training builds muscle and if you have muscle you will burn fat quicker.
To date, since starting my weight loss journey at the beginning of the year, I have lost just over 2 stone. I went from a size 16, to a comfortable size 12, a size 10 with a bit of sucking in. Regards inch loss, I lost an inch from my arms, 5 inches from my waist, 2 inches from my hips and 2 inches from my thighs.
I have to say I’m delighted with my results so far and I don’t intend on going back to my old way of eating. Now, I am very conscious of what I put into my body and my confidence has definitely improved. Do I still eat cheesecake…YES…Do I still order desserts and get takeaways…YES…but not half as often as I used to.
If you get to a point in your life where you’re feeling down on yourself after putting on weight for whatever reason, and you want to make a positive difference in your life…CHANGE WHAT YOU EAT. You can absolutely do it!!! You will be blown away by how much better you feel and you’ll be super proud of yourself too. When it comes to weight loss, diet is 70% and exercise is 30%, so if you get your eating habits in order, you’ll be laughing. The only person who can make the change is you, and the only person holding you back is you. So make the decision to be the healthiest possible version of yourself and I promise you, you will never look back.
I have Forever Living to thank for helping me achieve my goals, but find out whatever works for you and like any detox programme, it’s advised to have a little chat with your doctor before starting. Would I recommend Forever Living…absolutely! Apart from giving up alcohol 3 months ago, making the choice to use these products, has been the best decision I’ve ever made, regards my health. I’m leaner, my skin has improved, my hair and nails are stronger, and my energy levels have increased but more importantly I’m feeling fantastic and I’m happier.
