Would you love your makeup to sit better on your skin? Do you find that after applying your foundation you have a patchy finish? Would you love your makeup to last longer than usual, like for a wedding, event, photo shoot, dinner dance or even for a night out on the town with lots of dancing and debauchery? Either way, I have the answer – Primers AND setting sprays. They are an absolute must. However, the market is flooded at the moment with so many to choose from, and it can be quite overwhelming when you don’t really know what you’re looking for, so I’m going to tell you about 2 of my favourites. AND they are so affordable, so you won’t have to break the bank!
First up, is Makeup Revolution’s “Ultra Strobe Cream” which costs around €11. This is a primer and priming is one of the most important steps in your makeup routine. After you thoroughly cleanse and moisturise your face, wait a couple of minutes and then apply a primer. Primers even out skin tone and give you a perfect base to begin applying foundation. I love Makeup Revolution’s Ultra Strobe Cream because it’s an illuminating primer, so it has a hydrating effect on the skin, which is especially beneficial at this time of year. Whether you have oily or dry skin, hydrating primers are important because dehydration occurs in both skin types. Dry skin is due to a lack of OIL and dehydrated skin is due to a lack of WATER, so it’s very common that people with oily skin, will often have dehydrated skin as well.
You apply a small amount to your face and decolletage area, it absorbs quickly into my skin and I love it’s fresh scent. It gives instant radiance and can be applied under foundation or on top, on specific areas(cheekbones, cupids bow), as a gorgeous highlighter. I have been using it for months now and it’s a firm favourite of mine. On days where my skin is dull and needs a bit of life, this gives me an instant pick me up. It contains an ingredient called glycerin, which basically helps foundation sit better and last longer on your face. It is a dupe for Mac’s Strobe Cream and it definitely gives it a run for it’s money at a fraction of the price.
Next up, is Freedom Makeup’s “Pro Studio Fixing Spray” which costs around €7. This really is a makeup artist’s secret weapon. Ask any of them and they will tell you they use a fixing spray at the end. You may think it’s not worth your while, but honestly when you start using one, you’ll wonder why it took you so long. I cannot get over how much longer I get from my make-up. Now, I am a lot more confident in doing it earlier on in the day, if I was going out later that night, because I know with this little gem it WILL last. It holds makeup in place for 12 hours and I’d be lost without it! You hold the bottle at arms length and spritz over your finished look. Easy! It contains Aloe Vera, which is has hydrating and soothing effects on the skin, helping to eliminate fine lines. Also contains, some Sunflower Seed Oil, which has protective and nourishing properties, so its good for your skin too.
It was the super talented duo, Matte to Metallic, that first introduced me to these two brands, and makeup artists all over swear by them and I can see why. Makeup Revolution and Freedom Makeup are professional brands at affordable prices, I have a few products from them and I cannot get over the quality. I, also, cannot wait to add even more to my collection, particularly their eyeshadow palettes – everyone is raving about their colour payoff. I love following Matte to Metallic on Snapchat, Instagram and Facebook and learn so much from them. If you’re not following them already, you really should be. They are best friends running their own makeup academy in Dublin and are a fountain of makeup knowledge, you can find them on Facebook => Matte to Metallic Snapchat => “mattetometallic” They are brand ambassadors for Makeup Revolution and Freedom Makeup and have won “Best Beauty Blog” in Ireland this year.
If you are from Waterford, both Makeup Revolution and Freedom Makeup are available in Castle Pharmacy on the Dunmore Road or you can purchase online from => tambeauty.com and in a couple of weeks from here => mattetometallic.com I hope you enjoyed this blog and if you have any questions at all, don’t hesitate to get in touch with me by any of the ways below.
