This is the 2nd edition of my MUA Focus Series, where I ask some of my favourite make up artists questions, so ywe can get to know them a little bit better and give us an idea of their make up must haves. Tonight’s blog post is all about Niamh Cleary. She is an incredibly talented self taught make up artist based in Waterford and has recently been hired by Inglot to work in their new store opening this Saturday, here in the Deise. I’m beyond excited and can’t wait to spend all my money in there! Just have a look at her work in the photos throughout the blog…no wonder Inglot snapped her up!!!
I have been following Niamh with a while now on Snapchat (ncmakeup) and her makeup skills are unreal. She does fantastic tutorials in great detail, so if you are a lover of all things beauty and learning some new techniques Niamh is a must follow. She is also on Instagram here ==> ncmakeup_ where you can see more of her work. Below is the interview I had with Niamh…get the notepads out girls!!!
1. Favourite Primer & why?
2. Favourite Foundation & why?
I’m going to have to cheat here and say two! I love the Makeup Forever Ultra HD for a more natural coverage foundation and then MAC Studio Fix Fluid for a more full coverage effect! I also love the range of shades these foundations come in as they have gorgeous yellow based foundations that I’m obsessed with, and perfect for the kit as they have every shade you could imagine!
3. Favourite Highlight & why?
Favourite highlight is super easy! Has to be the Inglot sparkling dusts! The brightest highlight I have ever come across! 02 and 03 are divine!
4. Favourite Eye shadows & why?
I love Makeup Geek and Inglot! Definitely because they have every colour imaginable and also very reasonably priced for the quality!
5. Favourite Mascara & why?
I’m not the biggest mascara person because every time I wear makeup I wear lashes! I also use the essence volume one it’s under €5 and it does the job nicely!
6. Favourite Lashes & why?
I absolutely love lashes! I adore Glam and Co lashes! I’ve tried every single style, I think, and they never fail to amaze me! Aurora and Bellatrix are probably my top two picks from them!
7. Do you prefer cream or powder contour or do you do both?
8. What is your go to brush to apply foundation?
For foundation I love a flat top kabuki! Every brand of brush does them but I get mine in hairspray for €4.99! The reason I love this style of brush is simply because it gives a full coverage effect!
9. What is you favourite fluffy brush for blending eye shadow?
My favourite fluffy brush for the eyes is the 6ss from Inglot! It gives such a seamless blend!
10. If you could only use one makeup product for the rest of your life, what would it be?
If I could only use one makeup product it would probably have to be Inglot Brow Gel! Once my brows are on point I’ll survive!
11. If you could have only one Inglot Product for the rest of your life, what would it be?
It would have to be Inglot Under Eye Concealer in 96! Such a light weight concealer for under the eye area that doesn’t crease and I also love it as a base under my eye shadows!
12. What are your makeup must haves in your bag on a night out?
On a night out I’ll always carry some duo glue incase those lashes come loose and also whatever lipstick I’m wearing that night also!
13. What one piece of advice would you give to a make up artist trying to get their name out there?
If you’re trying to get your name out there make sure to take pictures of your clients, so future clients can look at your work! You also need to be active on social media to get your name out there and simply providing a great experience for your clients because word of mouth will be a huge way that you’ll become known!
14. What are your top 3 skincare products?
I love Lush Face masks, Ziaji Goats Milk Moisturising Day Cream and also the Nia Eye Serum!
15. If you could give one piece of advice to yourself 10 years ago, what would it be?
Ten years ago I was 11! I was a lot more shy back then and I cared what people thought! I would definitely tell myself to believe in myself and tell myself to not get so caught up in what people think!
16. Are there any makeup artists either Irish or internationally who inspire you?
17. Are there any women in business who inspire you?
18. What is the one makeup tool you just couldn’t live without?
I couldn’t live without is the 31T brush from Inglot to do my winged liner with!
19. What is your favourite makeup look?
My favourite makeup look is pinks on the eyes, with Inglot 86 pigment, big winged liner, full coverage face and “Kinda Sexy” Lipstick from MAC! It’s definitely my go to look!
20. And last but not least, could you share with us your favourite makeup tip or trick?
My favourite makeup trick is using Duraline to clean up my winged liner! I’ve only learnt this recently and it’s honestly changed my life! I use a flat concealer brush and place it along my wing to clean it up and also extend it so it gets that sharp extension!
So there you have it, it was fab getting to know Niamh and getting lots of recommendations and tips, I have a shopping list the length of my arm after it!! Niamh is a really lovely girl and so genuine. I was at the Deisebloggers Event during the summer and Niamh was doing a makeup demo at it. She was so bubbly, friendly and answered everyone’s questions with such ease and confidence, all the while doing a fantastic make up application. I can see her going really far with Inglot and it will only be a matter of time before she’s on the Pro Team!!! I’ve no doubt we’re going to see a lot from her in the future, I wish her all the success in the world. Make sure to give her a follow.
