The sun was shining down on Delany’s Pharmacy, Waterford this past Friday and it was a perfect day to talk skincare. I was one of the lucky ones who managed to get an appointment because they had booked up so fast. And I’m not surprised!!! Karen Dempsey, a skincare specialist with Declaré, was down for one day, carrying out complementary skin analysis. Now it wasn’t your run of the mill skin analysis under a magnifying lamp…Karen used a very specialised camera that magnified your skin 50 times!!! Amazing!
The pharmacy was buzzing and I was greeted by the lovely Laura O’Neill, who is part of the team at Delany’s. Laura was friendly and made me feel super welcome. They had lots of beautiful Declaré skincare sets which would make fabulous gifts for Christmas.
For the skin analysis testing it’s recommended not to wear any makeup so you get an accurate reading. So I didn’t wear makeup. I did, however, wear a peak cap and sunglasses, so as not to give people in the street too much of a fright! The machine is called The Dermotricos Skin Analyzing machine and it has 3 specialised lenses to ensure you get a very detailed reading of your skin. From my understanding, lens one was to test skin elasticity, lens two was to show the depth of wrinkles, lens three was to discover overall skin type, showing dehydration levels, oiliness, pores, dryness etc. I would LOVE to own one!
1. Skin Elasticity
For this part of the test, the machine basically sucks a little part of your skin and measures how quickly it bounces back. As we age, the production of collagen and elastin in our skin, unfortunately, starts to decrease, so i was very interested to see how I’d fair. On the left side of my face my levels were 98%, which I was thrilled about. The right side was a different story…78%!!! Why such a difference?! I didn’t know and then Karen asked me, “Do you sleep more often on your right side?!”
It’s my favourite side!!!!
Incredible, I couldn’t believe it. But when you think about it, it’s so obvious, your face is basically all squished up for hours…it’s bound to have an effect! Needless to say I’ve been trying to sleep on my back since I found out!
2. Wrinkle Depth
The depth of my wrinkles was normal for my age. However, the wrinkles around my eyes are deeper on my right side than the left side. Again, this is due to the way I sleep.
3. Skin Type
This part of the test showed up some oiliness around the nose area, very little dehydration overall and quite a lot of sensitivity, which you wouldn’t see with the naked eye. I never for a second thought I had sensitive skin, I just thought I had high redness, so this was an eye opener for me. I often use a glycolic face wash, because I sometimes get breakouts, but it could have been increasing my sensitivity. So going forward, I’m going to use it maybe once every 2 weeks. I had no pigmentation or any real sun damage. Overall, my skin was in good condition.
Me being obsessed with skincare I did leave with some products and I can’t wait to start using them. I have a day and night cream from another brand that I have to finish first and then I’ll start on these and have a full review after about 1/2 months of using, which allows me to get a proper feel for the products. Here’s just a little bit about what I got from Declaré on Friday =>
Cleansing Milk – Gently cleanses the skin without disrupting it’s pH.
Hydro Intensive Mask – Feeds the skin lots of nutrients to plump and hydrate
Soothing and Balancing Cream – Reduces sensitivity in the skin, while at the same time fighting the effects of ageing
Detox Night Cream – Full of anti-oxidants and helps prevent deterioration of collagen and elastin
The analysis took about a half and hour and I learned loads. Karen really knows her stuff and gave me lots of tips and advice. I would have stayed there talking skincare all day. It’s very important to know what your skin type is, because if you don’t, you could be using the wrong products and they will actually do you more harm than good. If you are unsure, book in for a consultation with a professional and they will talk you through everything. If Delany’s ever hold this event again, I’d encourage you to book in, you will learn so much. And after all, we only get one face! Delany’s are stockists of Declaré but if you’re not from Waterford you can get it online here => meagherspharmacy.ie.
Next on my hit list from Declaré is their Multi Lift Serum, known in the beauty world as “Botox In a Bottle”……YES PLEASE!!! And also their Eye Lifting Serum, which really intrigues me because you can actually use it on the eyelid. Usually with eye serums and creams you would avoid the eyelid, but Declaré has created something very special with their Eye Lifting Serum, and it will be mine. Have you ever used Declaré? What are your favourites? Let me know. If you have any questions don’t hesitate to contact me through any of the ways below.
