Declan Dowling, of Dowling’s Pharmacy, Waterford, is probably more known for his General Tonic, which boosts the immune system, increases energy levels, increases the body’s own ability to heal itself and helps fight stress buuuuuuut he also makes his very own moisturising lotion. For how effective it is, I think it deserves a lot more praise and I think a lot of people would benefit from using it.
I suffer with psoriasis on my face and body, specifically my hairline, eyebrows, back of my scalp and my legs. Psoriasis is basically inflammation of the skin and appears as dry, flaky, shiny skin. For me, it flares in times of stress. It can be extremely itchy and often keeps me awake at night. I have been using Declan Dowling’s Moisturising Lotion the past couple of months, and it is genuinely one of the most effective things I’ve used in combating my psoriasis.
It can be used on the face and the body, which is brilliant because it eliminates the need to buy two separate products. You could use it on just the patches of psoriasis and this way you’ll get a lot more out of it or you can use it all over, as your face and body moisturiser. For the purpose of this review I was using it all over and I couldn’t get over how incredibly soft it left my skin. The itchiness subsided and the irritation was massively reduced. I love it’s creamy texture and how easily it’s absorbed into the skin leaving it super nourished. For only a few euro for a big bottle, it’s an absolute steal!!! I like to keep it in the fridge and this enhances the soothing effects it has when it’s applied.
Who’s it for?
This moisturising lotion is not JUST for psoriasis. It’s for anyone who suffers with dry skin or dry skin conditions like psoriasis, eczema and dermatitis. It is safe to use on the youngest babies, as there are no harsh chemicals in it. So if you’re a parent, and your baby has nappy rash, or dry patches of skin, this will work a treat.
How to use?
For best results on the body I’d recommend you use straight away after your shower or bath. For the face, use as your moisturiser, either all over or just on the patches of dry skin. You can use as your day or night moisturiser or both. It’s important to use a night moisturiser because it’s at night that the skin and body heals itself. In my opinion, the most effective way to use this product for the face is to use day AND night.
I call this moisturising lotion magical because there’s only THREE INGREDIENTS in it!!! As well as that it contains no harsh chemicals and this is what I love about it the most. It contains emulsifying ointment, glycerine and water.
- One of the main ingredients is glycerine, which is a humectant. If you follow me on Snapchat “sarahdwan1” you’ll know a humectant is an ingredient that attracts & retains moisture. This is what makes it so effective in treating dry, dehydrated skin conditions.
- The other main ingredient is emulsifying ointment, which is made from paraffin oils. It provides a layer of oil on the surface of the skin to prevent the loss of water. It helps restore skin’s smoothness, softness and can prevent future flare ups.
With regular use, it WILL HELP YOU and you’re skin. I can happily recommend it if you or your child is suffering with any dry skin conditions. No frills, no fancy packaging, just results! It’s only available in Dowling’s Pharmacies, Waterford. They have one in Kilcohan, and Ardkeen Shopping Centre. Make sure you’re following Dowling’s on Facebook => Dowling’s Pharmacy to keep up to date with their special offers, promotions and competitions.
Have you ever used this lotion??? I’d love to hear how you got on with it.
Love the Skin You’re In.

About me – Who am I?
(NOTE – This is not a sponsored post and I was not paid to give a good review. Fiona, from Dowling’s Pharmacy sent this out to me for my consideration and for me to give my opinion on it, good or bad. When I am sent something I use it for at least 4 weeks(sometimes more), research all the ingredients, see it’s effectiveness and then share with you my own experience with the product.
To me the single most important thing about blogging is TRUST and I wouldn’t want to ruin the trust I have built up with my readers by recommending something that’s not very good. I will never put my name to a mediocre product.)
