My name is Sarah Dwan, and I’m from Dunmore East, Co. Waterford. I’m 29, even though, I think I’m still 21 at times. I have a passion for skincare, holistic health, healing therapies, beauty, and also writing. I am forever buying the latest makeup and love testing out new products as well as up and coming brands. So this blog is going to be a combination of those passions. I will always be honest and will NEVER say something is amazing, unless it really is.
I am a qualified beauty and body therapist for the last 10 years, and running my own beauty room, called Re>Nu Treatment Rooms at The Tower Hotel, Waterford, for the last 4 years. I specialise in body treatments, and I’m always trying to continue my professional development, by attending new courses and adding to my qualifications. I do everything from facials and Swedish massage, Reflexology and Indian Head to Bamboo Massage and Reiki. I carry out all beauty treatments from makeup and tinting to body scrubs and wraps. I used to write a beauty column for The Munster Express Newspaper for four years but now I want to focus more on writing online.
Growing up, I spent a lot of time with my Nanny. Years and years ago, before I was even born, people used to call to her for healing when they were sick, and she would heal them with the laying of her hands on the area. She is an amazing woman with 11 children, 30+ grandchildren and a few great grandchildren, thrown in for good measure. My Nanny says she passed her healing powers onto me, so it’s no surprise I’m in the profession I’m in and who knows maybe she really did! I have a huge family on my mother’s side and I love every single one of them. Family means the absolute world to me.
The goal of my blog is simple; I want to help others feel better about themselves. Whether that be through tips and tricks for makeup application, skincare routine, techniques on managing stresss and anxiety or suggesting new beauty products or explaining different types of massage…I just want to share what I have learned through my experience in the health and beauty industry with all of you. If I help out even one person, it will be a success in my eyes.
So I decided on the name, “Beauty and the Masseuse,” because put simply, I’m a masseuse who loves all things to do with beauty, all things pretty, and all things healing. I want to make you aware of the importance of looking after YOU, and show you some ways in how you can achieve this.
I am a masseuse, a beautician, a friend, a daughter, a sister, an aunt; I am many things to many people, but at the end of the day, I’m just me. I don’t claim to know everything, or have all the answers. I’m just sharing things from my experiences, so if you like what I write, fantastic, and if you don’t, well that’s okay too. I appreciate all feedback and suggestions you might have, and will use it as an opportunity to learn.
One of my favourite quotes is from Socrates, “All that I know, is that I know nothing.” If you keep this in mind, you will always strive to know more in life. And I love it because it’s a reminder that we are all just learning every day, and we can all learn from each other. Every person we meet can teach us something we don’t know….so let’s get started.
I really hope you enjoy the blog.
